Why does mold grow after a water loss?

Mold is a fungus that grows when there is moisture present. Mold spores are too small to see with the naked eye but they are always present. Once moisture is introduced it will start to grow on anything organic; drywall paper is perfect.

As the mold colonies grow they sporulate, or let off thousands of mold spores. In just 24 hours a wet basement can become a nightmare of mold growth.
